So, again and again and again, you as a business owner have put off the idea of taking out a Facebook ad, but you’ve finally realized that, now, the time is right.
There are several reasons to take out such an ad. Did you know that a Facebook or Instagram ad will boost awareness of who you are and what you do? According to one Facebook study, a series of photo-only ads outperformed other ad formats in driving unique traffic.
But before you get that ad out to the masses, you must know how to create it, using generally established best practices.
Creating Photo and Video Ads
Your photo ad needs to show people using and benefitting from your product. Have a single focal point and maintain visual consistency.
Remember less text is more. Too much copy is distracting, and that can result in fewer people seeing the ad.
If you’re running multiple ad sets within a single campaign, be sure all your images have a consistent theme and tie together visually.
Don’t forget to experiment and always use high resolution images. Creative Hub can help you accomplish that.
But what about video ads? Facebook offers this for any business, any budget, and any goal.
In-stream ads can deliver targeted brand messages within Facebook’s publisher and creator content, helping to drive ad recall, brand awareness, and intent lift.
Advertisers can insert ads that are five seconds to 10 minutes long, though Facebook generally recommend a 15 second maximum, with both non-skippable and skippable options.
To create an ad in Ads Manager:
• Create a campaign and ad set.
• Enter a descriptive name in the ad name text box.
• Select a Facebook Page and Instagram account to represent your business. All ads are required to have an associated Facebook Page.
• Select an ad format.
• Choose your media. For the single image or video ad format, select Add media to upload new media or choose from previously uploaded images or videos. Select Create video to choose from several templates that use your images to create a video.
• Preview your ad and select Publish.
• To see how your ad will look across different placements, select the placement thumbnails alongside your ad preview.
Keep in mind, before your ad runs, Facebook reviews them against its Advertising Policies. This happens automatically before ads begin running, and you can see the status of your ad in the Delivery column of Ads Manager.
THE CAROUSEL AD FORMAT
Another option is the carousel ad format, which is available for Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and Audience Network. This format allows you to show two or more images and/or videos in a single ad, each with its own headline, description, link and call to action.
Carousel ads are your best option when you want to show off multiple products or feature a different product on each card that links to its own landing page.
With more creative space within an ad, you can highlight different products or showcase specific details about one product.
To Create Your Carousel Ad from Ads Manager:
• Go to Ads Manager.
• Click + Create in the top-left corner.
• Choose an objective that supports the carousel format.
• Complete your budget and schedule, audience, placements and optimization and delivery information, then click Next.
• In the Identity section, select the Facebook Page you want to use for your carousel ad and attach your Instagram account, if applicable.
• In the Ad setup section, select Manual Upload or Catalog to dynamically create a carousel using your products. Then select Carousel.
• If you chose Manual Upload then click + Add Cards to upload media.
• Enter your Headline (optional), Description (optional) and Website URL. Select Apply to all cards or open your other cards to add original text.
• To add a new carousel card with either an image or a video, scroll and click the + Add Cards button.
• To delete a carousel card, click the Remove button.
• To change the order of the carousel cards, click a card and drag it to the location you want.
• To edit your carousel cards by placement, click Select a placement to edit.
• Choose if you want to use any Carousel optimizations.
• After you complete your carousel cards, enter the Primary text and Call to action for your ad. If you included a card with your Facebook Page profile picture in your carousel, you can add a See more URL and See more display link to show on the last card.
• To preview your ad, click Share in the top-right corner, then choose Send notification to Facebook. You’ll receive a Facebook notification on your mobile device.
• Add information in the Tracking section, if applicable.
• When you're done, click Publish to publish your carousel ad.
YOU’RE ALMOST FINISHED
Of course, no Facebook ad is free. When you publish one, Facebook will ask you to enter your payment information.
Here are the steps:
• Go to Meta Ads Manager and select Create to get started.
• Create a complete campaign and ad set before you publish an ad for the first time.
• Enter a descriptive name in the ad name text box.
• It goes without saying that all ads must have an associated Facebook Page. Select a Facebook Page and Instagram account to represent your business. Select an ad format. Choose from a single image or video, carousel or collection.
• Select Create video to choose from several templates that use your images to create a video.
